We thought you might like to know a little about some of the ingredients that make our soap so wonderful!

Olive Oil - This oil has been called one of the most important and ancient of oils. It's very skin-friendly because of it's superior conditioning and emollient properties, and it makes a hard and long-lasting bar. For these reasons we use more olive oil than any other oil in our soap.

Coconut Oil - Contributes a rich, luscious lather, even in hard water.

Palm Oil - Makes a nice hard bar and adds creaminess and stability to the lather.  We use a sustainable source that is orangutan-friendly.

Hemp Seed Oil - High in essential fatty acids which help stimulate cell growth. It's excellent for dry skin and is absorbed quickly.

Jojoba Oil - An excellent hair conditioner. It closely resembles sebum, the naturally moisturizing oil secreted by the human skin. It's absorbed readily by all skin types.

Castor Oil - An excellent emollient. Great for dry skin, can make hair shiny, and creates a protective barrier.

Ground Oats, Cornmeal and Poppyseeds - These are exfoliating ingredients - they help remove dirt and dead skin cells while stimulating the healthier cells below.

Yarrow - For centuries Yarrows have been used on wounds and are reported to have soothing anti-inflammatory properties. It's considered a potent healer.

Olive Leaf - For many centuries, Middle Eastern cultures used olive leaf topically to treat boils, rashes, warts, and other skin problems.

Essential Oils are reported to have many therapeutic benefits - listed below are just some of the many oils that we use. The information has been taken from Advanced Aromatherapy by Kurt Schnaubelt, PhD and The Directory of Essential Oils by Wanda Sellar.

Lavender - Works wonders for burns, also highly effective for relieving itching insect bites, heals small cuts (such as paper cuts), and generally keeps the skin in healthy balance. It also has a very calming effect.

Tea Tree - The Australian wonder, this oil is renowned for its unbelievable antimicrobial qualities.

Cinnamon Leaf - A very old spice, once regarded as a precious substance. Some of its many qualities include being mildly astringent, antiparasitic, aphrodisiac, and antiseptic.

Patchouly - The scent of the hippie generation. This earthy scent is said to have a grounding and balancing effect and can help heal rough, cracked skin, sores and wounds.

Peppermint - Excellent for mental fatigue and depression. Because it causes capillary constriction it has a cooling effect.

Rose Geranium - Useful for all types of skin conditions since it balances sebum, which keeps the skin supple. Eczema, burns, shingles, herpes, ringworm and chilblains may respond. A good overall skin cleanser.

Palmarosa - Has a calming yet uplifting effect on the emotions. Also said to be able to refresh and clarify the mind. A useful oil for dry skin. It also helps skin regrowth by aiding cell regeneration.

Lime - Very activating and stimulating. Has an astringent and toning effect on the skin.

Sweet Orange - All in all a rather good skin tonic. Spreads a little sunshine on gloomy thoughts and depression. Dispels tension and stress encouraging a positive outlook.

Fir - Has a warming and grounding effect on the mind.

Rosemary - Enlivens the brain cells, clears the head and aids memory. Helpful for sagging skin as Rosemary is a strong astringent - toning and binding - and may ease congestion, puffiness and swellings as well. Its stimulating action found to benefit scalp disorders and could alleviate dandruff and encourage hair growth.
